Who am I?

היי! שמי קורן.׳
You! Mi niem Ken.

Hello! I’m Ken.

If you’ve known me long enough, you’ll know that I love languages. It was a passion I just happened to discover in my years at university.

I consider myself conversational in 4 languages, one of which is foreign: English, Patwa (AKA Jamaican Creole), Jamaican Sign Language, and Japanese. The latter two I started learning at university, and, of course, I am still learning.

And then, there’s Hebrew. I’ve never been to a single class. I self-studied with the help of Israeli and otherwise Jewish friends. Most of my exposure to the language is written, and I’m not very good yet…

That said, languages are very important to me because I learnt something: Language opens doors. Through my study of languages, I have made friends, I have learnt about other cultures, and perspectives… and I have even been able to help open some doors, myself.

So, that’s me. The language man. And I don’t intend to stop being that!

Love this blog. I am using your blog as reference for scholarly work. You are a post graduate linguistics student right?

Thanks! Yes, I am. This blog is not a scholarly source, of course, but it was born out of my love for languages.
