Have you ever seen this symbol in a package you’ve received?
I recently did. I saw it along with other symbols, some of which were self-explanatory, others not so much:
The プラ symbol has Japanese katakana, and is read as pura. What’s less evident is that it is short for プラスチック (purasuchikku, plastic). In case the arrows weren’t clear enough, I went and Googled what it means:
This identification marker is only placed on packaging that are recyclable, according the recycle law. (If I translated it right.)
So, it basically means: “Recyclable plastic.”
Other plastics are, currently divided into “flammable garbage” and “non-flammable garbage”.
One mystery of the world solved! 🙂
