Fringe Languages

Some weeks ago, I was coming from my JSL class, signing with my classmates and a friend called out to me. Among my friend’s group was someone I didn’t know; he was shocked that they were calling out to me (with their voice): he was sure I was deaf!

Well, this past Friday, I got talking to this guy who thought I was deaf and he asked my what languages I’m learning. I told him: Japanese, Sign Language, Hebrew…

He said I’m into ‘fringe languages’. I said yeah!

I like that phrasing for some reason. The languages that everyone’s into are so… commonplace. Haha! Only problem is I have less people to practise with that way… hmm…

Anyway, I figure I might as well use this blog as practise for my fringe languages! I’m going to see if I can post some blog entries in these languages (with translations, of course!). Sounds fun, huh? 🙂
