Deaf Can! Coffee

A couple weeks ago, I visited the headquarters of a new social enterprise that I’m very glad to let the world know about.

A Deaf-run business, Deaf Can! Coffee. I bought a delicious strawberry smoothie:

Tasty!

Tasty!

“Deaf Can!” is a reference to a popular phrase in Deaf culture: “Deaf can do anything except hear!” And the word “can” when, translated into English, of course, is a pun on the idea of a coffee can. Clever don’t you think?

I could go on, but why not let the video I made with the manager and another Deaf youth do the talking? (Don’t worry, it has captions!)

Yay, a coffee place with social activist leanings. Looking forward to checking them out. 🙂
